Schwinn Criss Cross Bike
- Criss Cross is Thelonious Monk’s 26th album and his second with Columbia Records. The album consists of previously released Monk compositions that were re-recorded and re-released under Columbia Records by the Thelonious Monk Quintet.
- Kris Kross was an American teenage rap duo of the early 1990s comprising Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith. The duo are best known for their 1992 hit “Jump”, which was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and was certified double platinum as a single.
- Criss-Cross was an artist’s cooperative that formed in Colorado in the early 1970s. Having evolved out of Drop City, the 1960s artists’ community, C-C focused on issues surrounding “pattern and structure” and became associated with the 70′s art movement “P&D” (Pattern and Decoration).

My Schwinn CrissCross that I spent the winter restoring. I originally got it for my birthday in 1991, and it was my commuter bike for a long time until the chainrings and sprockets completely wore out. When I restored it, I fitted drop bars instead of the flat bar it came with, I replaced the very worn Suntour freewheel and chainrings, added silver fenders, and reconditioned everything else. After much searching I finally found some Shimano Sora brifters that worked with the new 7-speed SunRace freewheel AND the Alivio chainrings. The bike is now geared very low, like a mountain bike, and is excellent for group rides and leisure rides into DC.

My bike after coming back from night school on the night of the first snow this year. I’ve heard of the Shimano Nexus hubs freezing, but so far, so good for me.
